I recently had a chance to be a guest on Digital 411 on Talktainment Internet Radio with Dr. Erika. It was a complete blast and I thoroughly enjoyed talking about one of my most favorite topics: Business Blogging and how it relates to return on investment, social media marketing and search engine optimization.
On the Digital 411 show with me was Lori Crock from WrittenImpact. Lori helps companies and entrepreneurs succeed in social media including blogging strategically, sprinkled in with a lot of coaching.
It was a really good discussion with a lot of tips for small and medium sized businesses. If you’d like to listen to the radio show you can hit the archive link here. It will be well worth your … Read More »
A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to co-present at the American Marketing Association Special Interest Group on Social Media (AMA SIG for short). I worked with Steve Bell, Founder and Principle at Strategic Marketing Innovations Consulting. It was so much fun working with Steve, who is one of the smartest guys I’ve ever met. Steve’s rich history as an analyst at Forrester gave our presentation a level of depth that would not have been possible otherwise.
Our presentation focused on how Social Media is changing the ways Corporations do business. We were able to draw parallels to the days of when the Internet first broke onto the business scene. The similarities to then and now are striking. We also got into organizational structure which included snippets of a video interview I did with Ryan Squire, Director of … Read More »

Unless you have had the privilege in participating in one of these, you may be asking yourself, “What the heck is an UNconference??”
An unconference is where you get a bunch of people together who want to learn something and then scrap the panel and kick the speakers out the door. Let’s face it, lectures are nice, but there is just no substitution for interaction.
In an unconfernece, the participants (not the leaders) select the topics they want to discuss through a brief session of brainstorming. After a quick organizational break (inserting lunch works well) the leaders organize all the feedback from the participants into main topics for disucssion. The large group breaks into smaller groups and the leaders facilitate conversation within those groups. The leader’s job isn’t to lecture or educate, it’s to LEAD the conversation. You know, keep it on … Read More »
As the holiday season is in full swing, I felt it was necessary to pull some information together to share. We had the privilege this November to sit down with Karine Joly to ask her questions about her blogging boot camp she gave at the American Marketing Associations Symposium for Higher Education. If you we’re unable to attend Karine’s boot camp, this video will provide you with more insight than you have now and give you the motivation to sign up for Karine’s sessions in the future!
I have broken the video down by time. Feel free to skip around the video if you don’t have the time to watch its full length.
3:14 – What is in a blogging boot camp?
4:40 – How do you get undergrad to write good content on … Read More »

I had the privilege of interviewing Craig Newmark from Craigslist at the 2.Ohio event in Columbus on Oct 10th. Craig is a humble, soft spoken, no-ego kind of guy…which is amazing considering the proliferation and popularity of his website, Craigslist.com. Even on his business card, his title is “customer service rep. & founder”… (notice which designation is first?) What a lesson for us all.
I hope you enjoy this “real life” interview. This was done on the fly with a very cheap video camera. The questions were not scripted ahead of time nor were Craig’s responses…this is just real convo coming at you via video…enjoy.
If you were fortunate enough to attend 2.Ohio yesterday at the Hilton Polaris, you had the pleasure of hearing from Reid Hoffman (Founder of LinkedIn), Judy Estrin (author of Closing the Innovation Gap, former CTO of Cisco and current CEO of JLabs) and Mike Nelson, (Professor at Georgetown and volunteer for the Obama campaign).
If that’s not enough IT talent for you, mingling with the audience, before and after the event, were Brian Behlendorf (important figure in the open source movement and primary developer of the Apache Web Server) and Craig Newmark (Founder of Craigslist)!
This Friday (10/10) at 5:30 pm, there is a very cool event taking place at the Columbus Hilton-Polaris. Reid Hoffman (founder of LinkedIn) and Judy Estrin (author of Closing the Innovation Gap:Reigniting the Spark of Creativity in a Global Economy and former CTO of Cisco) will be speaking at a 2.0 technology event in Columbus (2.Ohio) both about technology & Innovation and also in support of Senator Obama.
While Reid and Judy are here to support their chosen candidate they are also here to share their perspectives regarding innovation, business and social networks with the Columbus community. Whether you’re a Democrat, Republican, or some other party affiliation this is a great chance to dialogue with some amazing national thought leaders.
If you are in the Columbus area and wish to attend, please visit http://newtech.meetup.com/136/calendar/8824043/ to register.
If you are unable to … Read More »
